The inevitable always happens. This time at a church school in Tennessee. God’s will? American perfidy? Stupidity? Or simply an insane not-so-Supreme Court.

Medicynical Note: Just another couple of days of murder and mayhem in the once civil, once United …… States of America. We are unique and are number 1 in the industrialized world in gun deaths, mass shootings, accidental shootings, school shootings, gun homicides, suicide gun deaths, police shootings, police getting shot, and in the number of guns/capita. We are the world leader.
A 6 year old shot a teacher. Now months after the event the criminal “justice” system can’t decide who should be held responsible. They did decide to not charge the 6 year old.
“Earlier this month, top Newport News prosecutor Howard Gwynn said his office will not criminally charge the boy because he wouldn’t understand the legal system and what a charge means. Gwynn has yet to decide if any adults will be charged.”
Medicynical note: It’s truly absurd that the owner of the gun has not been charged. Newport News clearly has more problems than the 6 year old shooter. I’m not sure whether the delay in attributing responsibility and prosecution is worse than the actual shooting. It’s a grotesque.
Legal inertia has is also evident in the handling of the attempts to suppress voters, illegally influence the vote count and ultimately the violent attempt to reverse the 2020 presidential election by our former President and many members of his political party some serving in the House of Representatives and Senate. Two years out and none of these key planners and instigators have been indicted or in any significant way punished. This too is grotesque.

She also voted for the Trump loosening of the Dodd-Frank banking regulations in 2018. “After Trump became president, Sinema and a majority of the House Financial Services Committee supported the far more extensive Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act of 2018. Sinema sponsored unrelated accompanying measures protecting children from identity theft and seniors from scammers. The immediate effect was to divert attention from the bill’s ultimate intention, which was to let the banks do whatever they want.”
So after voting for the deregulation of the industry and encouraging bankers to take more risk she’s back. Wondering what happened.
Medicynical Note: We’re watching the slow disintegration of democracy.
A Supreme Court that is supremely unconcerned about voting rights; that appears to support a state religion; that wants to reinstitute the laws of 1776 rather than adjust to the 21st century.
An octogenarian president who, while in my view is an upgrade from the last guy, wants re-election. Someone in their mid 80’s leading the country? Not a good idea.
We also have a House of Representatives led by (third in line for the presidency) a hapless compromised speaker who sold his soul to the most radical conservative faction of his party and who supported the Jan. 6 attempt to overthrow the election.
And now a self proclaimed independent, one of the prime movers to deregulate banking , wonders what caused two banks to fail over the weekend and wants accountability. With such a feckless leadership what could possibly go …………right?
A Turkish city is the new poster child for regulation. In one town thousands died. In the other no-one died. Care to guess which was which?
Medicynical note: Libertarians/most republicans posit that regulation is un-necessary. People and businesses under the pressure of competition will automatically do the right thing. In this case in many places in Turkey, builders and their customers opted to not follow common sense building regulations to maximize profits and in the case of their customers “save” money.
The result was monstrous. In areas where building regulations were NOT followed thousands died…..in the few areas where they were strictly applied few people died.
There is a message here for those who are interested. Most regulation are there for a reason.
It’s bad enough that a minor cable network picked up the moneygrubbing LIV tour without ESPN touting it as a “good” sign. It’s a terrible confirmation what we already knew.
Morality? Right and wrong? Ethics? They’re for suckers. It’s the money stupid.
Medicynical Note: A devil inspired murderousmedievalmisogynist, theocratic monarchy is buying it’s way into the public consciousness. Buying businesses, athletes, sports franchises, properties and souls.
Government censorship to suppress historic fact is reminiscent of the German movement in the 30’s to disenfranchise and later murder an entire categories of people— whether the brutal murderous suppression of the Roma or the Jews the outcome was the same.
We, in the once United States, are having a kind of nervous breakdown moment. It’s a fact that slavery occurred for hundreds of years in our country. It’s a fact that all manner of atrocities occurred under slavery. This was not limited to the south but the bulk of the horror occurred there and indeed a bloody war was fought between states on this issue. And yes formalized legal segregation of the races also occurred. An it’s a fact that racism is still quite evident in our culture today.
So maybe it’s not surprising that the Florida governor, the grandchild of Italian immigrants, is moving, with the support of the Florida Republican Party, to erase the well documented history of slavery and segregation from schools in his state. He doesn’t want it taught there.
Medicynical Note: For hundreds of years in parts of our country, the so-called land of the “free,” blacks were slaves, couldn’t own land, weren’t allowed into certain shops, had to sit in the back of the bus; and were limited to separate and unequal educational opportunity; etc, etc, etc. Hundreds of years without freedom, hundreds of years not being educated and hundreds of years of insecurity and poverty.
Republicans at one time had a proud history of opposing slavery (Lincoln) and supporting the anti-segregation civil rights legislation in the 60’s. That all changed in the late 60’s under the leadership of Nixon. The Repubs jumped ship and using a “southern strategy” suddenly like magic declared, after 300 or so years of racism, segregation and white preference, that any attempt to balance the scales was “discrimination” against whites. How timely and politically opportunist.The south has been solidly republican since that time.
And now, Florida is moving to stop teaching the facts of slavery and racism in our history. The movement sadly is not limited Florida.It’s white America in denial returning to it’s “originalist’s” racism.
Medicynical Note: Every day in every way (with guns) more people die. This is not freedom.
And our conservative (sic) Supreme Court justices, who made it all possible, want more protection because they are afraid ……of …..people…….with …….guns. Sicko.
George Santos is an incompetent liar. He is literally unemployable. So what does it mean when he is elected to the U.S. Congress, a body in which he is not the only or first lying incompetent? What does it say about our electorate that we elect liars and tolerate their incompetency?
This is not a political appointee who happens to be a simpleton like Chance in the Peter Sellers film Being There. No this is a full blown representative who votes on legislation, who was appointed to committees and who appears to be a full blown if not respected member of a very conservative republican caucus. What does this say about conservative America?
Medicynical Note: Nothing this man says can be accepted as fact without careful confirmation. But maybe that is the state of American politics today. After all we survived, barely, Donald Trump’s 30,000+ lies over 4 years during his tenure in office……and he is running again.
What does it all say about the state of the so-called Union?

Medicynical Note: Both the Nazis’ and DeSantis’ goal is cultural genocide and marginalization of groups of citizens of different cultural origins, political and religious beliefs. DeSantis is just getting started but we all know all too well where the Nazi efforts led. America is on the cusp and the 2024 election will be very important.
