Usually a summit meeting between heads of state is carefully planned with experienced aides and State Department operatives carefully working out areas of agreement and disagreement with their counterparts. In this case Trump has fired those with experience and replaced them with a real estate investor, a failed senator and lower level yes-men. In Anchorage there were no agreements, no real understanding of the other side’s views and then there was/is Trump’s almost daily proclamations of internally conflicting positions. It was doomed.
To better understand Trump’s reaction to his abject failure in Anchorage you have to understand his pathology. In his behavior Trump acts like a psychopath, the most severe personality disorder. As such, in his mind, he can’t ever make an error, he can never apologize and has delusions of grandeur (how many wars did he personally stop this year?). In his addled mind he can never fail. (google psychopath if you doubt me)
This was an unplanned poorly conceived meeting and when Trump kowtowed towards Putin on the tarmac you knew it would end badly. On the flight back without consulting anyone he suddenly endorses the Russian position on the war…i.e. Ukraine surrenders with all that implies. No more talk of sanctions and still no tariffs. Tomorrow he may say the opposite. And next week he will blame Ukraine, Biden, Obama, all the Bush family, Mrs. Obama, Hillary, NATO and our European allies for the war.
In so many ways he is opening the door to an empty room.
Medicynical Note: None of this is good for America, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, other former Soviet bloc nations, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, NATO or even the E.U.
